Beginning with today's DIY Thursday, I will be posting some of my recipes from my facial care line.
Today, we'll start with a staple, the Rosewater & Aloe Vera Facial Mist.
Here is what you need:
*Aloe Vera Juice (Online, I like Organic Creations; otherwise, try NOW brands at the health foods store)
*Vegetable Glycerin (mine is coconut-derived; most are derived from palm, so check if that is of concern)
About:
We're going to make a 4 ounce bottle today. I keep mine in a misting bottle. Why? I often keep mine in the fridge and use them chilled. Nothing feels better on the skin than spritzing it with a chilled holistic treatment to soothe and soften the skin! I spritz it on before my Goat's Milk Facial Cream and also use it to set my makeup (currently using Everyday Minerals Intensive in Golden Fair with my loose setting powder (recipe coming soon!).
I also recommend this for those who travel. Keep a small bottle (compliant with TSA guidelines) in your carry-on bag to hydrate your skin while flying.
Let's see what the ingredients do:
Aloe Vera Juice-- Aloe Vera Juice naturally contains vitamins B1, B2, B6, C, niacinamide, choline and 18 amino acids. It can be used to brighten, calm, provide antioxidant benefits, and calm the skin.
Rosewater Hydrosol-- Great to use on irritated, sensitive, inflamed or burned skin. This is completely alcohol-free and is non-drying.
This is alcohol-free and skin softening, and also mildly antibacterial. Vegetable Glycerin--a humectant and skin softening agent.
.
Let's make the mist:
For a 4 ounce bottle, use 1.5 fluid ounces of aloe juice, 1.5 fluid ounces of rosewater hydrosol, 0.75 fluid ounces of witch hazel hydrosol, and 0.25 fl. ounces of glycerin. At home, you don't need to preserve it is used regularly. Gently combine and put into a bottle. Voila! You're done!

Oh my goodness! How sweet of you to post this!
About the preservative-I'm assuming if I have it I can use is right?
I keep meaning to ask- do you have a suggestion for a good place to buy containers like small spray bottles, pump bottles, jars, etc. in smaller quantities for those of us who like to try DIY things? I would love to try making some homemade things for gifts this year.
Yes, you can buy single bottles and smaller quantities like 12 at wholesalesuppliesplus.com and elementsbathandbody.com. Elements has a $15 minimum order.
If you like to label your items, labelsbythesheet.com sells them 1 sheet at a time as well.
Christine, I think yo have the Optiphen, right? If so, you can use it in this at no more than 0.5%. I like to do a food grade preservative in the mist--Potassium Sorbate and Ascorbic Acid.
thank you so much for sharing this!!
You're most welcome!
That is so sweet of you to share this recipe. When I ran out of your carrot seed mist, I tried making a mist with some hydrosols I had (rose and germanium), aloe juice and carrot seed EO. Not sure if it was as good as yours, but I liked it. Thank you for all your DIY posts..:). I love reading them and hope to eventually try them all out.[I've been putting off buying supplies- must get to that soon)
I was very excited to see this post. You're too kind! Thank you for sharing. Also, thanks for the inside scoop on what makeup you're using. Ever since Christine introduced me to your products and this blog I'm trying to change over my whole line of health and beauty care.
